WhatsApp rolling out new feature for iOS users, will let them filter their favourite chats and groups
WhatsApp working on new feature
As part of the new feature, iOS users will be able to filter their favourite chats and groups under a separate tab, so that they can access them whenever they want. According to a screenshot shared by the publication, WhatsApp will let the users set out the most commonly used chats and add them to their favourites. This filter will enhance the user experience by helping users segregate their regular contacts from others.
The feature is not officially mentioned in the changelog on the App Store. Yet, WABetaInfo can confirm that WhatsApp is releasing the feature soon.Â
How does the feature work?
WABetainfo shared a screenshot of the Favourites chat feature. In the screenshot, the description of the feature reads, "Make it easy to find the people and groups that matter most across WhatsApp."
In this feature, the users can manually add their chats to Favourites by tapping on an option called Add to Favourites. In the screenshot, this option is visible towards the bottom of the page.
About WhatsApp's new ranking feature
On a related note, in a previous report by WA Beta Info, WhatsApp was said to be working on a new ranking feature for status updates. This feature changes the order of status updates within the list, ensuring that updates from important contacts are always displayed at the top.
Specifically, WhatsApp will prioritise contacts that are more important for the user, with status updates from WhatsApp itself always placed at the top of the list to ensure users receive important information and updates directly from the platform.
This prioritisation of contacts is based on a ranking system developed by WhatsApp that considers several factors to generate statistics identifying significant contacts. These factors include frequent contact, indicating a higher level of interaction and importance; pinned contact, where pinned chats are prioritised within the Updates tab; recent messaging, reflecting the immediacy and relevance of interactions; and expiring status updates, ensuring users see timely updates before they disappear.
This app is getting more and more bloated and needlessly convoluted.
